In the early 80s, when we were in our mid-20s, my husband was attending a 10-week course in the UK. The children and I stayed in West Germany. We exchanged letters at least once a week, but midway through his course, I received a letter from him that left me stunned. He expressed a desire to see me with another man or with him and another man. I didn’t respond for two weeks, and when I did, I questioned what he thought of me and whether he valued our marriage. In his reply, he was very apologetic, explaining it was just a fantasy and promised not to mention it again.
